Padel is a sport very similar to tennis, but played in a smaller court with smaller rackets and a softer ball. Here are some of the most important rules you should know before you start playing:
The padel court:
The playing field for padel is about one-third the size of a tennis court and is surrounded by walls. The ball may touch the walls but may not go outside the court.
The ball
The ball for padel is softer than a tennis ball and may only be played with the racket.
The service
The service must be made from a service box and must not hit the walls before it enters the court.
The return
The return must also hit the front wall before landing in the opponent’s half of the court.
Volleying
Volleying is allowed in padel, both at the front and back of the court.
Scoring Points
Points are scored when the opponent cannot hit the ball back or when the ball goes outside the field of play.
Out
A ball is counted out if it is not inside the playing frame or if the ball hits the walls before hitting the court.
Course of play
Padel is played with two players per team, and a match consists of 2 or 3 sets.
